MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – How Belarus and Russia advance cooperation in outer space exploration has been explained to reporters by Piotr Vityaz, Head of the Aerospace Operations Department of the Staff of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), BelTA has learned.

Cooperation of the CIS states advances in various areas, including in space exploration. “How should we interact? How should we explore space matters? How should we use space technologies for the benefit of every state? All of these are topical questions. As for our country, we have the Belarusian space system for the remote sensing of Earth. We have our own satellite. We have small satellites. We train personnel for this industry. We have something to show and something to share. And other countries also have their own experience in this field,” Piotr Vityaz said.

He stressed that Belarus-Russia cooperation develops in a particularly productive manner. Together with the Russian Federation Belarus is designing a new satellite with the resolution of 0.35 meters. Belarus’ first woman cosmonaut Marina Vasilevskaya has been to outer space. She performed a research program that included five scientific research experiments and two educational experiments.

Apart from that, Belarus has taken part in the international isolation experiment SIRIUS 23 at premises of the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The experiment provided an imitation of space flights. The Belarusian woman Olga Mastitskaya spent one year in isolation to imitate a flight to the Moon and had to perform research.
