Sasnovich wins qualifying opener at WTA 1000 event in Dubai

MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Aliaksandra Sasnovich has claimed victory at the start of qualifying for the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, which offer a prize fund of $4 million, BelTA has learned.

On 13 February, the Belarusian No. 114 defeated Croatia’s Petra Marčinko (world No. 69) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. The match lasted an hour and a half.

On 14 February, Aliaksandra’s Sasnovich’s opponent in the decisive match for a place in the main draw will be world No. 50 Sonay Kartal of the UK.

The competition in Dubai will conclude on 21 February.
