Sabalenko tops WTA rankings with 3,000+ point lead over Swiatek

MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – As the Indian Wells tournament gets underway, Aryna Sabalenko holds a lead of more than 3,000 points over her nearest rival in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, BelTA has learned.

As of today, the Belarusian tennis player has 10,675 points to her name, while the second-ranked Iga Swiatek from Poland has 7,588 points. This week, Aryna Sabalenko will start competing at the WTA-1000 tournament in Indian Wells, USA. A year ago, the Belarusian reached the final, where she lost to Russian Mirra Andreeva. Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich currently holds the 116th spot. Iryna Shymanovich is in 160th position, and Victoria Azarenka is ranked 173rd.

The top ten of the new WTA rankings:

1. Aryna Sabalenko (Belarus) — 10,675;
2. Iga Swiatek (Poland) — 7,588;
3. Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) — 7,253;
4. Coco Gauff (USA) — 6,803;
5. Jessica Pegula (USA) — 6,583;
6. Amanda Anisimova (USA) — 6,070;
7. Jasmine Paolini (Italy) — 4,232;
8. Mirra Andreeva (Russia) — 4,001;
9. Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) — 3,845;
10. Victoria Mboko (Canada) — 3,211.

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings are still topped by Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, with Italian Jannik Sinner in second, and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic rounding out the top three. The highest-ranked Belarusian player is Erik Arutiunian, who holds the 476th spot.
