MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) - Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus went off to a good start at the French Open, BelTA has learned.
In the opener, the Belarusian world number one defeated world number 50 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. The match lasted one hour and 15 minutes. In the second round, Aryna Sabalenka will face the winner of the match between world number 149 Linda Fruhvirtová of the Czech Republic and France’s world number 67 Elsa Jacquemot. Last year, she reached the final of the French Open, where she lost to American Coco Gauff.
The women’s singles final will take place on 6 June, while the men’s final will determine the champion on 7 June. The total prize fund for the second Grand Slam tournament of the 2026 season stands at a record €61.7 million, with the men’s and women’s singles champions each earning €2.8 million.
