Russia in favor of mutually increasing tourist traffic with Belarus

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – Russia is in favor of increasing the mutual tourist traffic together with Belarus. Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky made the statement during the plenary session of the third Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia on 8 June, BelTA has learned.

The Culture Minister reminded that Russian tourists account for 70% of the tourists Belarus welcomes. The Federal Tourism Agency of the Russian Culture Ministry and the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry signed a cooperation agreement some time ago. The agreement is expected to provide an additional impulse to the increase in mutual tourism traffic. “In essence until recently we’ve been encouraging people to travel outside the country for recreation, to Turkey and Egypt,” said Vladimir Medinsky. “Don’t we have nothing worth seeing from Grodno to the Kamchatka Peninsula, the Altai Territory, Siberia? Let’s fully reroute our joint tourism policy for the sake of developing domestic tourism. Our citizens will only be grateful to us for that.”

Vladimir Medinsky shared his experience of travelling in Belarus with a family by car. “It was one of the most vivid impressions in my life — striking hospitality, beauty, and cleanliness,” he remarked.

The Russian Culture Minister also suggested incentivizing cultural tourism for children and military patriotic tourism together.
