Prizewinners of WorldSkills Belarus to compete in WorldSkills International in Brazil

MINSK, 16 June (BelTA) - Winners of the national competition WorldSkills Belarus will represent Belarus at the World Championships in Brazil, Rector of the National Institute of Vocational Education, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Arkady Shklyar told a press conference at the BelTA press center.

More than 400 people took part in the first WorldSkills Belarus, which was organized as part of the WorldSkills International (WSI) movement in 2014. During the year, the winners of the national competition have been preparing, with the help of experts from leading companies, for the world championship of professional excellence which will be held in Brazilian Sao Paulo from 11 to 16 August. This year the prestigious event in 50 skills will gather more than 1,200 people from 63 countries.

To improve the professional skills the Belarusian participants were sent for internship to Finland (mechatronics), France (carpentry), Italy (cooks), Germany (turning and milling), and the United States (welding). Best teachers and experts of the country are working with Blaurs’ team to get them better prepared for the Brazilian championship. They share the experience and knowledge with the young specialists; help them raise the skills to the international level. Belarus has also invited specialists from abroad.

The Belarusian participants will compete in 17 skills in Brazil.

“It is our professional elite. They are going to Brazil to show their best in what they do, get international recognition, gain new knowledge and enhance the prestige of their profession,” Arkady Shklyar noted.

Arkady Shklyar thanked representatives of the trading network Euroopt for the support of the national team. “The country’s biggest private business acted as a general partner of the national team. Supporting the Belarusian professional education system and training of highly-qualified personnel, Euroopt demonstrated a good example of business social responsibility,” Arkady Shklyar said.

WorldSkills International unites 72 member states that account for over 70% of the world’s population. WSI popularizes blue-collar jobs, makes contribution to the enhancement of their prestige among the youth and provides effective tools for achieving high standards of professional education in every country.

WorldSkills International is one of the leading driving forces in the development of professional education in more than 50 skills. Belarus’ joining the WSI movement opens new opportunities for fast and efficient introduction of professional standard distribution systems, synchronization of Belarusian standards with the international norms, enhancement of the prestige of blue-collar jobs in the society.
