Plans to expand Chinese language program in Belarus

Plans to expand Chinese language program in BelarusSOCHI, 17 October (BelTA) – Belarus plans to ramp up the number of schools teaching Chinese language, Belarusian Education Minister Igor Karpenko told the media on 17 October, BelTA has learned.

As of today, there are six schools in Belarus that teach Chinese. “We intend to increase this number in the coming years, taking into account ambitious Belarus-China social and economic projects, including the construction of the Great Stone industrial park,” the minister remarked.

When asked about foreign students in Belarus, Igor Karpenko noted that currently there are about 20,000 students from 107 countries studying in Belarus. “We are eager to gather momentum. We plan to expand the list of English-taught courses,” he added.

The opportunities offered by higher education in Belarus are of especial interest to visitors of the national exhibition at the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students, the minister noted. Volunteers tell young people about the degrees they can get in Belarus, the living conditions, and other things.

The Belarusian exhibition displays major Belarusian youth movements and achievements of young scientists that have won the 100 Ideas for Belarus contest. A presentation of the 2019 European Games in Minsk has also been arranged. The exhibition pays great attention to the 2021 IIHF World Championship in Latvia and Belarus, too.
