Photo exhibition to mark centennial of Belarusian diplomatic service opens in Minsk

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – A documentary photo exhibition to mark the 100th  anniversary of the Belarusian diplomatic service was officially launched at the National History Museum in Minsk on 22 January, BelTA has learned.

The exhibition features photographs and documents showing the history of the formation and development of the country's diplomatic service. The mateirals have been provided by the history center of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic service, the Belarusian new agency BelTA, Belarus National Archives and the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings.

The photos depict big significant historical events: the signing of the United Nations Charter, the ratification of the treaty establishing the Commonwealth of Independent States, the conclusion of first agreements to establish diplomatic relations with foreign countries, and also photos of statesmen Alexander Chervyakov, Kuzma Kiselev, and Anatoly Gurinovich.

The exposition shines spotlight on the unique documents and personal effects of the Belarusian diplomats, whose names have made part of the history of Belarus. These include business cards, employment records and service passports of diplomats, UN postal stamps about Belarus. A separate section is devoted to Belarus’ participation in UNESCO.

Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei noted the importance of the exhibition being hosted by the National History Museum. He stressed that the achievements of the Belarusian diplomatic service are based on the achievements of previous generations.

According to the minister, the exhibition will go on display in the Belarusian diplomatic mission abroad.

The exhibition launch ceremony was attended by the heads of ministries, former ministers of foreign affairs, heads of diplomatic missions and offices of international organizations in Belarus, and also veterans of the diplomatic service.
