Partisan Chronicles: Commander Fyodor Yudanov

Partisan Chronicles: Commander Fyodor Yudanov

MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – On 2 July 1941, when the German troops broke into Borisov, five Soviet people in civilian clothes joined the Red Army. Among them was Fyodor Yudanov, the chairman of the Loshnitsa Village Council. The brave five made it as far as Vitebsk.

On the instructions of the Borisov District Communist Party, Fyodor Yudanov was told to act in the rear of the enemy in Borisov District as part of the underground movement. As a liaison and intelligence officer Fyodor Yudanov took the lead of a partisan unit that turned into a leading force in derailing enemy trains.

“Partisan Chronicles: Commander Fyodor Yudanov” is a new page of the joint project of BelTA and the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History. It is dedicated to the Voroshilov Partisan Unit of the Shchors Brigade, Minsk Oblast, and one of its ‘brave commanders’.

The project is based on a unique collection of handwritten partisan journals provided by the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History. The collection was assigned the status of historical and cultural value of international importance (Class 1). Every week BelTA brings these chronicles to light and posts their digital copies. Each of them sheds light on various aspects of partisans’ life, gives a glimpse into thoughts and feelings of people who risked their lives to fight a battle behind enemy lines.

Till 3 July 2019 BelTA will publish digests of these chronicles and upload their digital versions complementing the unique content with photos from its own archives.
