Over Br5.7m, €171,000 donated to Belarus’ Healthcare Ministry

MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian Healthcare Ministry has updated the information about donations to the charity accounts of the National Center for Medical Response to help curb the spread of COVID-19, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry.

“From 25 March to 20 May 2020, a total of Br5,710,597.52 and €171,339.32 was deposited to the charity accounts,” the press service noted.

For example, Br18,855.37 was donated by individuals and legal entities on 18 May and Br5,251.66 by legal entities alone on 19 May.

As of 20 May, over Br211,000 and €171,300 remained on the accounts.

Around Br5.5 million was transferred from the charity account in Belarusian rubles as of 20 May. Belmedtekhnika received Br4,683,020 (over Br1 million was transferred to purchase rapid tests on 13 May), the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology got over Br364,300, the National Research Center for Transfusiology and Medical Biotechnology – more than Br102,000 (Br11,000 for two centrifuges was provided on 11 May), and the National Anti-Doping Agency – Br350,000.

BelTA reported earlier that the Healthcare Ministry had opened a charity account following numerous addresses from the country's business, Hi-Tech Park residents, industrial companies, and individuals.

“We welcome support from the public. We will be able to use donations to purchase equipment for laboratory diagnostics of COVID-19, diagnostic sets, medicines and to treat patients,” the message of the Healthcare Ministry reads.
