Over 211,000 Belarusians receive first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – As of 21 April, more than 211,000 Belarusians had received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and over 75,000 had already got both shots, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry.

“No cases of complications after vaccination have been reported. Around 10% of the vaccinated experience general (flu-like symptoms, fever, headache) and injection-site (swelling or pain) reaction within 1-3 days after getting the shot,” the press service said.

The first and second stages of the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign are in full swing. Above all, vaccines are administered to healthcare workers, pharmacists, employees of the social sector and education as well as to people over 60 and patients with chronic diseases.

Belarus uses the Russian combined vector jab Gam-COVID-Vac and China’s vaccine against SARS-CoV-2. Since 16 April, Belarusians have received Gam-COVID-Vac bottled by the Belarusian pharmaceutical company Belmedpreparaty.
