Over 2,000 photos of Belarus’ liberators collected by youth patriotic project

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – Over 2,000 photos of Belarus’ liberators have been collected during the patriotic youth project Marathon 75 celebrating the 75th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders, Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Belarusian BRSM Youth Union Oleg Dikun told journalists on 19 June, BelTA has learned.

“Participants of the project have collected over 2,000 photos of Belarus’ liberators. Some of them will make part of the 75-sheet national album Belarus Remembers. Dear Faces of Victory. But all the information we have gathered will be included into the digital version of the album. The main aim of the project is to preserve the memory of Belarus’ liberators,” Oleg Dikun said.

The youth patriotic project Marathon 75 was traveling round Belarus since 11 June. On 19 June arrived at the Mound of Glory in Minsk Oblast.

During a solemn meeting at the Mound of Glory, BRSM members, the Great Patriotic War veterans, representatives of trade unions, the Belarusian Armed Forces, and the local authorities laid wreaths and flowers to the memorial. The youth of Smolevichi District unveiled a Victory Canvass of the district consisting of 88 pieces featuring district-born Heroes of the Soviet Union and full cavaliers of the Order of the Fatherland.

The event also included a concert featuring the marathon participants and artistic groups from Minsk, a performance of military dog handlers and their dogs, open-air interactive zones, and an exhibition dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.

According to university student Nadezhda Kratko, who participated in the marathon, such projects are very important for the youth. “I enjoyed traveling with the project because we could talk to war veterans and listen to their stories about the price of the victory. My granddad and great granddad took part in the war. I believe we should never forget the deeds of our ancestors,” she noted.

The Marathon 75 project aims to foster patriotic values in young people and preserve the connection between generations. The itinerary of the marathon included all oblast capitals and some district capitals. The project included the Flowers of Great Victory open-air, Belarus remembers dialogues, and the Liberation of Belarus traveling exhibition. It aimed to compile the album Belarus Remembers, Dear Faces of Victory and the Belarus Remembers canvass. Plans are in place to hand them over to the Museum of the Great Patriotic War History on Independence day on 3 July.

Marathon 75 has been organized by the BRSM Youth Union in cooperation with the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus and the Museum of the Great Patriotic War History with support of Belarusian Railways.
