MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – Belarusians will one day find their original relic – the Cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk, Rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus Denis Duk said on the air of the RTR Belarus TV channel, BelTA has learned.
When asked where the original Cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk could be, Denis Duk answered: “Definitely not in Polotsk. Though Polotsk does have a replica.”
“I do not want to speculate on where the cross is. But I know for certain that it exists. Manuscripts don’t burn, as a famous novel says. The Cross of Euphrosyne certainly didn’t vanish without a trace back in 1941 when it was in Mogilev. There are several versions today about its whereabouts,” the rector said.
“I believe that sooner or later Belarusians will find their relic – the original one. There’s simply no other way,” Denis Duk believes.
The Cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk was made in 1161 by the goldsmith Lazar Bogsha on her orders. The relic disappeared at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).
