MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – The next Belarusian Antarctic expedition will start in November, the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus told BelTA.
A total of 13 polar explorers will take part in the 19th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition. The expedition is supposed to end in April 2027.
A meeting of the Russian-Belarusian working group on Antarctica development took place in the Pripyatsky National Park on 23 September. Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Aleksei Trukhanov took part in the event on behalf of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Participants of the meeting considered plans for cooperation in science and logistics for 2026-2027, including during the 19th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition and the 73rd Russian Antarctic Expedition.
“Cooperation with colleagues from the Russian Federation in this polar region is strategic in nature: from delivering participants and cargoes for the Belarusian Antarctic expedition to conducting joint scientific research,” Aleksei Trukhanov said. “In the current season the BAE and RAE teams are supposed to undergo partial rotation. We have agreed to keep preparations for and actual expeditions under joint control and promptly make adjustments if necessary.”
