National flag mounted on Belarus’ highest point

DZERZHINSK DISTRICT, 12 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ national flag was mounted on the country’s highest point, Dzerzhinsky Hill, in the run-up to the Day of the National Flag, Emblem and Anthem on 12 May, BelTA has learned.

Taking part in the opening of the Flag of the Motherland composition were representatives of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, Dzerzhinsky District Executive Committee, Minsk Oblast Military Commissariat, BRSM Youth Union, Belarusian National Pioneer Organization (BNPO), other public associations and departments, delegations of regions, the youth, and those who suggested installing this memorial sign.

An extreme sports athlete, climber Pavel Gapanovich addressed the audience. He is an engineer at the Dzerzhinsky branch of the Minsk Oblast State Registration and Land Cadastre Agency. Thanks to his hobby, he traveled extensively throughout the world. Wherever he went, he proudly carried the flag of Belarus and the region with him.

At the end of the ceremony, all those present sang the national anthem accompanied by a brass band.

The 345-meter Dzerzhinsky Hill is considered the highest point in Belarus. It is located on the Minsk Upland, 30 km west of Minsk, not far from Dzerzhinsk (to the north of the agricultural town of Skirmantovo). Previously called the Holy Mountain, it was renamed Dzerzhinsky Hill in 1958. In the late 1990s, a granite slab with an inscription in Belarusian was installed there. Currently, the place is well-appointed and is a monument.
