National Center for Contemporary Arts to promote Belarusian culture abroad

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – The National Center for Contemporary Arts of Belarus will promote the Belarusian culture both inside the country and abroad, director of the center Natalia Sharangovich told reporters.

The idea of combining two agencies (Center for Contemporary Arts and the Museum of Modern Art) is not about merging these two organizations. This must be a multifunctional center which will feature various arts.

The center has a museum collection which will be expanded and popularized. Today this collection is practically unknown to most. "The center will engage in exhibition activities in Belarus and will also work to promote Belarusian contemporary art outside the country by implementing projects," said Natalia Sharangovich.

The National Center for Contemporary Arts should become a space for experiments and a platform for showcasing the results of the experiments. "Our center is open to the young. New art is different from the old one. In all times these have been young people who have sought to express themselves in a new way, in their own way. If there is interest, then why not give the opportunity to the young to express themselves?” Natalia Sharangovich noted.

Spatial street projects are gaining popularity throughout the world and in Belarus. The project Art-Ostrova has been implemented this year. It aroused great interest and the organizers intend to develop this project, invite not only Belarusian but also foreign artists, Natalia Sharangovich informed.

The director of the center reported that a big program of events will be implemented in 2015-2020 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the art group UNOVIS. A big exhibition is planned for 2017 which wil feature many young artists. In addition, the UNOVIS celebrations are impossible without the display of Kazimir Malevich’s works which exhibition the National Center For Contemporary Arts will organize.
