Names of two Belarusians perpetuated in Garden of the Righteous in Jerusalem

MINSK, 25 March (BelTA) – A memorial plaque with the names of Yelena Vorotchik and Yefrosinia Grenko from the Belarusian city of Borisov has been placed on the Wall of Memory dedicated to Belarus in the Garden of the Righteous Among the Nations in Jerusalem, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum hosted a solemn ceremony to present a commemorative medal and a certificate to the relatives of Elena Vorotchik and her mother Yefrosinia Grenko. In 2012 both Belarusian women were awarded the honorary title of the Righteous Among the Nations for rescuing a Jewish man in the years of the Great Patriotic War.

Attending the ceremony were relatives of the women, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Israel Vladimir Skvortsov, members of the museum administration, and local residents. In his speech, Vladimir Skvortsov said that it is very important to preserve the truth about the Great Patriotic War. He also emphasized the importance of the heroic deeds of those who were saving other people from death while jeopardizing their own lives. The official ceremony finished in the Garden of the Righteous Among the Nations where the memorial plaque with the names of the two Belarusian women was unveiled.
