Minsk to join Kupala Night festivities

MINSK, 5 July (BelTA) – Kupala Night festivities will take place in two parks of Minsk on 6 July. The program of the events is available on the website of the district administrations, BelTA has learned.

The visitors will see Kupala Night wonders and a concert of folklore groups, try traditional food and take part in various activities and entertainments, including round dances and old rituals.

Kupala Night is a pagan holiday dedicated to the summer solstice, natural beauty and self-purification. Kupala Night rituals emerged in pagan times to thank and appease powerful forces of nature – Fire, Water and Earth.

Kupala Night is associated with a plethora of legends and myths. People believe that on this night rivers become transparent and one can see souls of the dead in disguise of mermaids. Those who find the fern flower will be able to see what humans cannot see and to understand the language of animals and birds.
