Minsk to host writers’ symposium 10-12 February

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – The international symposium, Writer and Time, will be held in Minsk for the first time. The event will take place on 10-12 February ahead of the 22nd Minsk International Book Fair (11-15 February), BelTA learnt from the Information Ministry.

Writers from 16 countries, including Belarus, Russia, China, Germany, Italy, France, Israel, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Tajikistan and others, will discuss the role of artistic intelligentsia in the modern global world, the importance of the contemporary writer’s word for the preservation of the spiritual and moral fundamentals in the development of the society and the state, the high mission of the writer in the work with the young generation.

The symposium will open at the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War on 10 February. The project named Unbroken Belarus. The Strength of Peoples in Unity that marks the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great patriotic War will be a keynote idea of the writer’s meeting.

Participants of the international writers’ symposium are expected to meet with the Minsk youth at the Minsk City Hall as part of the project, The Writer’s Word. A Living Tie between Generations.

Meetings between the participants of the international symposium and students and the academic staff of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University n.a. Maxim Tank and the Institute of Journalism of the Belarusian State University will take place on 11 February (From Heart to Heart project).

The youth theme will be discussed at the roundtable with the participation of writers from Saint Petersburg and Belarus.

A plenary meeting of the international writers’ symposium will be held on 12 February.

The 22nd Minsk International Book Fair will be held at the national exhibition center Belexpo in 14 Pobeditelei Avenue on 11-15 February. Among the organizers of the writers’ symposium are the Information Ministry, the Union of Writers of Belarus and the publishing house Zvyazda. The event will be held in cooperation with the Minsk City Hall.
