Minsk to host international congress of librarians on 18-19 October

MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – The 5th international congress Library as a Phenomenon of Culture will take place at the National Library in Minsk on 18-19 October, BelTA has learned.

Attending the congress will be leading library experts, representatives of research organizations, educational institutions, developers and manufacturers of software, hardware and information products from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Poland, Russia, the United States and Ukraine.

The main theme of the forum is Comfortable Environment of Libraries: New Technological and Material-Technical Solutions. Delegates will discuss the design, construction and operation of library buildings, their architecture, organization of space, security and cloud computing technologies, and will present information retrieval systems, analyze the operation of electronic libraries and other online resources.

The program of the congress will include presentations, master classes and panel discussions. The winners of the 25th national contest Library is the Heart of National Culture will be awarded on the opening day of the forum, 18 October. On 19 October everyone will be able to attend a lecture by American librarian Charles Forrest.

The exhibition Libraries of the Future: Technologies, Buildings, Equipment will be open during the forum. It will showcase the latest achievements in the field of information and technical equipment of libraries, a wide range of products and services of companies engaged in industrial production and sale of racking equipment, design and maintenance of security systems.

The congress is organized by the Belarusian Culture Ministry and the National Library of Belarus.
