MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – The 1^st University Powerlifting World Cup will take place in Minsk on 11-17 July 2016, BelTA learnt from head of the Information and PR Department of the Belarusian sports society Dinamo Sergei Shevchenko.

It is expected that about 400 athletes from 30 countries will take part in the competitions. The main venue for the World Cup will be a field-and-track stadium of the Belarusian State University of Physical Education. The agreement was reached with the corresponding government bodies to exempt members of the foreign sport delegations from consular fees in entering the country.

“The 1^st University Powerlifting World Cup will be a so-called exam ahead of the World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Minsk in 2017,” noted Sergei Shevchenko.

In January 2016 Minsk was visited by a delegation of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF). The head of the IPF delegation thanked the Belarusian side for understanding and support and expressed assurance that the World Cup in Minsk would be organized at the highest level.
