Minsk to celebrate City Day on 7-9 September

MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – Minsk will celebrate the City Day on 7-9 September, Vitalina Rudikova, the head of the culture department at the Minsk City Hall, said at a press briefing at the city hall, BelTA has learned.

This year Minsk turns 951. The celebrations will start with a professional excellence awards ceremony and a concert at the Palace of Culture of Trade Unions. Best law enforcement officers will be honored in a ceremony at the Minsk City Hall. The program will include a plein-air session, a photo exhibition and a Memory Watch commemorative event.

The main events will start on 8 September. A flower ceremony at the Minsk Hero City Stele will be followed by the awards ceremony “The Minsker of the Year” and concert at the Palace of Art and dozens of other venues of the capital.

The military history festival Minsk Starazhytny that will be held on the intersection of Pobeditelei Avenue and Masherova Avenue will offer a journey back to the times of Vikings and knights, the Napoleonic Wars, the First and Second World Wars, the Ancient Rome and even the Paleolithic Era.

The Palace of Sports will host a sport festival in the morning of 8 September and an international tournament of strongmen in the afternoon. Other events will include a festive fair, canoe and sailing competitions on the Svisloch River, and a swimming marathon on Komsomolskoye Lake.

A youth festival will take place at the Extreme Sports Park on the same day. The Minsk is the City of Beauty project will see nine couples tie the knot at the Upper Town Concert Hall.

A music and pyrotechnic show will wrap up the program of 8 September near the Palace of Sports.

A new memorial sign “To Belarusian Heroes of Cosmos” will be unveiled in Minsk on 9 September. Minsk Half Marathon will become the largest event of the day. The Pobeda Museum and Park Complex will welcome thousands of Minsk citizens for the Tank Day by the World of Tanks game developer.
