Minsk to build new sports facilities ahead of European Games 2019

Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets MINSK, 21 December (BelTA) – New sports facilities will be built in Minsk for the Second European Games 2019, Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets told the media on 21 December.

“Our number one goal is to build the track-and-field stadium Dinamo that will host the opening ceremony. The second facility, the Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, is scheduled to be delivered in mid 2018,” Andrei Shorets said.

The Minsk Mayor said that an organizing committee has been set up to prepare for the Second European Games. The discussion of the facilities to host sports competitions is underway. The experience gained during the 2014 IIHF World Championship will be taken into account. There are also plans to set up hospitality zones.

The Minsk authorities believe that a big number of guests will come to the Belarusian capital to attend the games.

Belarus was elected to host the Second European Games in 2019 after a vote at the 45th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in Minsk in October 2016. The First European Games were held in Azerbaijan on 12-28 June 2015.
