Minsk, St. Petersburg announce urban housing design competition winners

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – St. Petersburg and Minsk have announced the winners of the competition for the urban housing design concept of new residential areas in the two cities.

The results of the urban housing construction project were summed up by Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets and St. Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko in a ceremony in St. Petersburg on 19 December. The Minsk winning project is the Zhuravli concept designed by Minskgrazhdanproekt Institute. The winning project from St. Petersburg is the concept by Svyatoslav Gaikovich’s Studio 17.

The projects will be launched soon. The St. Petersburg project will be implemented along Semashko Street, near Clinical Hospital No. 9, in Minsk. In St. Petersburg the Belarusian residential district will be built in the Polyustrovo neighborhood.

The goals of the competition was to encourage the concept that blends the habitat environment into the architectural, historical-cultural, natural, and social fabric of the two cities. The competition was also aimed at promoting professional contacts in urban planning. The competition was based on mirrored design principle of the competitive documentation.
