MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) - The 10th CIS Countries Documentary Film Festival Eurasia.DOC will be held in Smolensk and Minsk from 28 September to 2 October, BelTA has learned.
Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Journalists, Executive Director of the festival Andrei Krivosheev noted that over the years Eurasia.DOC has become a major cultural event for Belarus and an excellent training ground for young documentary filmmakers and journalists. “We hold our festival at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, the Faculty of Journalism at BSU, as well as organize workshops, open shows and discussions,” he said.
Andrei Krivosheev also said that the festival has an extensive post-festival program in Belarus. “The best films that truly resonated with Minsk audiences are shown across the country. We try to organize film screenings not only in big cities and the capital but also in small district towns to see what people think and what issues they find important. We invite young people to our open screenings, the generation that will shape the future of the Greater Eurasian Partnership in 5-15 years. This is a conscious choice, as topics of historical memory and human destiny in a changing world are both interesting and important for future generations and today’s young Belarusians,” he noted.
Festival Director Valery Shekhovtsov added that over the years the event has become truly international and popular beyond Eurasia. “We will work to expand the geography of our festival and spread information about it to other continents. This year, we plan to establish cooperation with Africa,” he said.
The festival is now accepting submissions for its 10th edition and for the youth short documentary competition Eurasia.DOC: 4 minutes. The deadline for submissions is 10 July.
Valery Shekhovtsov said the festival might add a new popular science film section in 2026, as well as several other new topics, including one dedicated to women.
