Minsk invites for big sports festival on 8 September

MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – A large-scale sports and fitness festival will be held near the Palace of Sports in Minsk on 8 September. The event will be timed to the Minsk City Day, deputy head of the sports and tourism department of the Minsk City Hall Svetlana Demeshko told reporters on 5 September, BelTA has learned.

The program of the festival features competitions in power extreme, kettlebell lifting, streetball, master classes in volleyball, martial arts, chess and other sports. There will be an exposition of fitness equipment and bicycles, exhibition performances of the yachting team and the workout team, a roller ski race and a roller skating marathon. Taking part in the festival will be famous Belarusian athletes.

The festival will kick off at 11.00 and will be over at 15.00. “The festival will offer entertainments for all. Parents will be able to choose a sports club for their children. There will be a concert of Belarusian performers,” Svetlana Demeshko said.

Executive Director of the Belarusian Basketball Federation Anastasia Marinina informed that the federation will arrange a basketball zone. The Palova Arena will host a 3x3 basketball tournament. Minsk will welcome six women’s teams from Russia, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine. Belarus will be represented by two teams.

“This will be a spectacular event. Each match lasts not more than 25 minutes. Men’s teams will also play. There will be six simultaneous matches. The children’s basketball academy and a children’s zone will be open from 12.00 till 14.00. Visitors will see workout, break dance and cheerleading performances,” Anastasia Marinina said.

A power extreme tournament Minsk Open Cup will be held on the amphitheater on the bank of the river. The strongmen from six countries - Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Lithuania and Poland - will compete for the trophy. The most breathtaking part of the tournament will be pulling four cars having the total weight of eight tones. There will be quizzes and competitions for spectators, Chairman of the Power Extreme Federation Sergei Lepeshko said.

Deputy Chairman of the Skating Union of Belarus Alexander Novakovich unveiled the details of the roller skating marathon. The country’s best skaters and foreign athletes are to take part in the event. The first round will be meant for ordinary people; everyone is invited to participate. Organizers encourage spectators to show up in costumes; there will be prizes for the most original costume. Athletes from Russia, Ukraine, France and the Netherlands will join Belarusians in this skating competition.

A lot of activities will be based around the venue meant for the Volleyball Club Minsk. There will be a sailboat racing along the Svisloch River and a skate park along the embankment.
