Minsk hosts Day of Italian Design

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – The Day of Italian Design was marked in the Belarusian capital on 2 March. Belarusian and Italian designers discussed development trends in the sector, BelTA has learned.

According to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Belarus Stefano Bianchi said at the event held at the National Center for Contemporary Arts that the meeting is held in Minsk for the second year in a row. Italian Design Day 2018 is one of the projects of a comprehensive program to promote the country, which is held under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international cooperation with a view to presenting the Italian art and design at the international level.

The diplomat noted that Italian Design Day promotes the interconnection between design and sustainable economic, social and environmental development. The meeting organized by the Italian Embassy in Belarus included a panel discussion “Design is timeless: defining the classics of tomorrow”. Its main goal was to get Belarusian specialists and businessmen familiar in with the basics of modern industrial Italian design, which is one of the main components making up Made in Italy concept and one of the main directions of the national exports.

The meeting was organized at an exhibition site that featured art project Table of the Belarusian pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2017. Project curator and famous artist Roman Zaslonov also took part in the discussion. He expressed the confidence that the implementation of such projects is aimed at strengthening international cooperation of Belarus with foreign countries, including Italy.

The panel discussion was attended by two young, but already well-known specialists Paolo Del Elche and Denis Guidone. They are two out of a hundred "ambassadors" of Italian design (architects, designers, academics, businessmen, critics) who take part in similar events, conferences, exhibitions, and meetings around the world. The guests noted that the theme of the interconnection between design and sustainable development is one of the main components of the Broken Nature concept, which reflects the concept of The Milan Triennale 2019 international exhibition. The main theme of the project will be the relationship between man and nature.
