Minsk, Belgrade to exchange monuments

MINSK, 8 September (BelTA) – The twin cities of Minsk and Belgrade will exchange monuments of famous public figures. The decision was made by the two mayors as a time capsule was laid at the foundation of a residential building as part of the multifunctional complex Minsk Lighthouse in Minsk on 8 September, representatives of the group of companies Dana Holdings told BelTA.

According to the source, Belgrade will erect a monument in Minsk while Minsk will do the same in Belgrade as a token of brotherly friendship between the cities and considering the fact that the cities are twinned. A monument to the famous scientist Nikola Tesla, a Serb by origin, will be built in Minsk. A park or the part of the park where the monument will be located is likely to be named Happy Planet.

Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) is known worldwide for his contribution to the development of devices powered by alternating current as well as the development of multiphase systems and electric motors. These devices made the so-called second stage of the industrial revolution possible. Tesla as a unit is used to measure magnetic flux density. Tesla’s works were innovative and made modern electric technologies possible.

Taking part in the ceremony to place the time capsule at the foundation of the residential building in the multifunctional complex Minsk Lighthouse were Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali, Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets, Honorary Consul of Belarus in Belgrade, a member of the Serbian parliament, head of the Serbia-Belarus parliamentary friendship group Dragomir Karic, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Serbia to Belarus Veljko Kovacevic, and senior executives of the group of companies Dana Holdings, which is the developer of the multifunctional compound Minsk Lighthouse.

The multifunctional residential compound Minsk Lighthouse with the total area of 1 million m2 is scheduled for commissioning by 2017. Its design is based on the city-within-city concept. The infrastructure of the complex includes the region’s biggest retail and entertainment center Dana Mall with the total area of 200,000m2. Minsk Lighthouse has won international awards. It was recognized the best multifunctional compound in Eastern Europe and has received European Property Awards, World Finance Awards and a Golden Jaguar.
