MFA in favor of setting up Belarusian House in Minsk

MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in favor of the idea to set up the Belarusian House in Minsk, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he spoke at the opening of the second meeting of the Advisory Council for Belarusians Abroad at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 5 September, BelTA has learned.

According to the Minister, this proposal was made by one of the members of the Advisory Council. “Such organizations successfully operate in many neighboring countries. The proposal still requires clarification and elaboration. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports the idea and promises to do its best to materialize this interesting idea,” Vladimir Makei said.

The Minister believes that such building can house the Museum of the Belarusian Diaspora, organizations that are engaged in development of cooperation with the Belarusians living abroad, various societies of friendship organizations of foreign students who studied in Belarus. “It could also incorporate halls for concerts, literary meetings, congresses, conferences,” Vladimir Makei said.

He asked the representatives of business and organizations of the Belarusians to consider financial participation in such a project.

The Minister also noted that the 7th Congress of the Belarusians of the World will be held next year. Its traditional organizer is the public association Batskaushchyna. “Preparation of this event will be one of the main areas of interaction with our fellow countrymen. This Congress is expected to adopt really important decisions that will help revitalize the activity of the organizations of the Belarusians abroad,” the head of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
