MAZ-SPORTauto come in 4th in Silk Way Rally Stage 5 with two tires pierced

MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) – Belarus’ MAZ-SPORTavto crew led by pilot Sergei Vyazovich finished the fifth leg of the 2016 Silk Way Rally in fourth position with two tires pierced, BelTA learned from MAZ-Sport Auto Team.

The fifth stage of the rally took the racers from Astana to the picturesque Balkhash Lake. The Belarusian crew posted the fourth-fastest time clocking 6h10m, almost 23 minutes off the stage leader, Dutch pilot of a Renault truck Martin van den Brink. After the fifth leg of the rally, they place ninth in the general standings with 55 minutes separating them from overall leader Kamaz’s Eduard Nikolaev.

Alexander Vasilevsky’s crew finished the stage in 11th position clocking over 6h53m, and now place 11th overall. The MAZ crew of Vladimir Vasilevsky came in 13th posting a time of 7h51m.

The next 411km-long leg of the rally will offer a wide variety of terrain with off-track, sandy tracks, small dunes, and vegetation.

The route of the 2016 Silk Way Rally passes through three countries, Russia, Kazakhstan and China. The race crosses 15 cities, the Gobi Desert, and Tien Shan mountain ranges. Partaking in the rally are 24 trucks and 100 offroaders that will run a total of 10,735km.
