Lukashenko receives first copy of Yakub Kolas’ poems in Uzbek as gift

TASHKENT, 13 September (BelTA) – Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko the first copy of Yakub Kolas’ poem in Uzbek as a gift, BelTA has learned.

The book entitled Native Songs was published in Uzbekistan not long ago. The book comprises the best works of the Belarusian poet. “He celebrated the similarity of our peoples, wrote about the nature of Uzbekistan, Uzbek people,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted.

In his words, Yakub Kolas is highly respected in Uzbekistan. A monument was built in Tashkent to commemorate the poet. A lot of people have visited it to lay flowers.

Alexander Lukashenko, for his part, gave the president of Uzbekistan the book entitled Belarus and the Muslim World and expressed gratitude for the perpetuation of the memory of Yakub Kolas.

“We are grateful to you that remember the person who celebrated in his works not only Belarus but this land as well,” the Belarusian head of state said.
