Japan makes face masks from Belarusian linen

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – Japan manufactures face masks from linen made by Belarus’ Orsha Linen Mill, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Japan Ruslan Yesin.

The ambassador noted that a store selling goods from Belarusian linen opened in Tokyo a while ago. “The Japanese partners of Orsha Linen Mill have engaged in the most important task – protecting people’s health. Belarusian linen fabric is used to make face masks that are in demand in Tokyo and other cities,” Ruslan Yesin said.

Representative Director of the Japanese company NBR, that imports Belarusian linen and products of Orsha Linen Mill, Shogo Furusawa said that the company launched the production of face masks from Belarusian linen in Ishikawa Prefecture in December 2019.

Masks made from the material of Orsha Linen Mill are pleasant to the touch and suitable for everyday use. Thanks to natural antibacterial properties of linen, they are healthier than other masks. They are also easily washed, which is important for multi-use, Shogo Furusawa noted.

Now, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, we have witnessed a shortage of face masks the Japanese are used to, so the demand for linen masks is growing. Moreover, a lot of people stay at home now, teleworking, and sew face masks themselves. Belarusian linen fiber is perfect for this. Its natural properties make it an excellent material for wearing in close contact with sensitive skin, Shogo Furusawa added.

He pointed out that the company receives a lot of comments from Japanese clients saying that linen is a perfect fabric for clothing and other goods. Shogo Furusawa gave the credit for this to the Belarusian manufacturer.

Japanese consumers take interest not only in linen face masks. Tablecloths and clothes are also popular.

We sell Belarusian linen goods in Japanese stores and online, on Amazon, Rakuten [Rakuten Global Market is one of Japan’s largest online shopping malls], and other websites, Shogo Furusawa said.
