International Festival of Modern Choreography kicks off in Vitebsk

VITEBSK, 21 November (BelTA) – The 31st International Festival of Modern Choreography (IFMC) kicks off in Vitebsk on 21 November, BelTA has learned.

The official opening ceremony will be followed a festival version of the wordless play Caligula by Sergei Bezrukov’s Moscow Gubernsky Theater. On the same day, the Swiss project Joshua Monten Company will present its dance performance Little Joy. The program of the festival will also include performances from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. Among the guests are the Kiev Modern Ballet Theater (Ukraine), the Yevgeny Panfilov Ballet Theater, and others. Rossini Overtures by Spellbound contemporary ballet (Italy) premiered at the Bolshoi Theater of Belarus in Minsk on 20 November. The play will travel to Gomel on 22 November and then to Vitebsk on 25 November.

The major contest of the festival is an international competition of modern choreography. The festival will also feature interactive lectures, theoretic workshops, seminars, panel discussions, creative laboratories, and exhibitions of paintings, sculpture and photography.

The festival is founded by the the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee, the Culture Ministry, Vitebsk City Hall, the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus. The organizer is the Vitebsk Cultural Center.
