MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – The information center of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has launched its video project “Now you know it!” on YouTube, BelTA learned from representatives of the Belarusian national energy company Belenergo.

According to the source, short but informative videos will be released as part of the project to offer answers to the most pressing questions concerning the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

The first video focuses on why the current location was chosen for building Belarus’ first nuclear power plant. The video explains that the process had been lengthy and complicated. Those entrusted with choosing the location placed the strength of soils above all else in order to ensure the safety of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

Consequent videos will offer information about the safety of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, its environmental impact, the purpose and operating principles of the nuclear power plant’s primary equipment. Other matters will be covered as well.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using a Russian design featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. Rosatom’s engineering division – ASE Company – is the general contractor. The first unit is supposed to go online in 2020, with the second one scheduled for launch in 2021.
