Imperial Orpheon kicks off Francophonie Days in Minsk

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – A concert of the French band Imperial Orpheon gave start to the Francophonie Days in Minsk that will last through 30 March, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian audience gave a warm welcome to young French musicians. Imperial Orpheon is a band of four multi-instrumentalists whose originality and energy leaves no one indifferent.

According to First Counselor at the French Embassy in Belarus Elsa Pignol, a varied program has been prepared to get the Belarusian audience familiar with the French language and culture. In her words, Imperial Orpheon will set a tone for the Francophonie Days in Minsk.

Minsk residents and guests will be offered a variety of meetings and events dedicated to gastronomy, theater, music, history and cinema. In particular, the program will include meetings of the Francophonie discussion club and the cinema club on the French gastronomy. The program will also comprise the business competition Golden Word and the Francophonie Film Week.

The Francophonie Days are organized by the Embassy of France in Belarus in cooperation with the office of the Embassy of Switzerland in Minsk and the Embassies of Romania, Moldova and Armenia in Belarus.

Every spring millions of French-speaking people celebrate the Francophonie culture and the French language. The events are usually timed to 20 March, the official International Francophonie Day.
