Ignat Golovatyuk of Belarus takes gold in WUC Speed Skating mass start

MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) – Ignat Golovatyuk of Belarus has clinched gold in the men’s mass start race at the IV World University Speed Skating Championship in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

In the final race of the championship, the student of Belarusian State University of Physical Education showed good tactics and crossed the finish line first. Second place went to Marcin Bachanek (Poland). Third was Jeroen Janissen of the Netherlands.

This medal has become the third for the Belarusian at the World Uiversity Speed Skating Championship in Minsk. Earlier on, he took second place in the 500m and 1,000m events. Another Belarusian medalist is Aleksei Kirpichnik (bronze in the men’s 10,000m speed skating competition).

Team Japan took the top spot in the medal standings with five gold medals.

The fourth edition of the World University Speed Skating Championship in Minsk has brought together athletes from 14 countries.
