ICAO Aviation Security Training Center opens in Belarus

MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) - An Aviation Security Training Center of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the world’s fifth Russian-language one, opened at Minsk National Airport on 13 October, BelTA has learned.

When speaking at the opening ceremony, Belarus’ First Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication Yevgeny Rogachev said that the opening of the center is an important event not only for Minsk National Airport but also for the entire country. "The opening of the ICAO training center is one of the important steps to implement our plans to deepen international cooperation in the field of aviation security at the regional level, especially what concerns the further development of the business relations with the ICAO Paris Bureau," Yevgeny Rogachev said.

According to him, the Belarusian side sees the decision to set up the center of the ICAO Aviation Security Training Center as recognition of the work of its specialists. "We understand that we have a big responsibility in terms of organization of the educational process at a level befitting its new status," said Yevgen Rogachev.

He noted that the current situation requires "the most active measures and the pooling of efforts in such important area as the protection of civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference in the interests of the security of citizens."

The ICAO Aviation Security Training Center in Belarus is the 29th in the world. The ministry believes that the institution will improve the country's image in international air community and will help the country save foreign currency spent on training specialists abroad.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the ICAO headquarters from Canada, French Regional Bureau of ICAO, and officials of ministries, and aviation security services in Belarus.

The Aviation Security Training Center at Minsk National Airport was certified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as an ICAO Aviation Security Training Center on 15 May 2015.
