Healthcare ministry: Second wave of COVID-19 might be less intensive in Belarus

MINSK, 15 September (BelTA) – The second wave of COVID-19 is expected to be less intensive in Belarus, head of the department for hygiene, epidemiology and disease prevention at the Healthcare Ministry Inna Karaban told the media at the BelTA press center.

“This is a novel virus and it is very difficult to prognosticate how it will evolve. At the same time, the data available in Belarus and around the world allow us to assume that the second wave of the coronavirus infection will be less intensive, because a great number of people have already had this disease. We hope that many of those who recovered have developed antibodies. We see that now the cases are not as severe as in the first days,” Inna Karaban said.

As far as vaccination is concerned, it is too early to talk about the timing. “Clinical trials of the vaccine are underway. You probably know that the Belarusian premier got this vaccine and he feels great. There are no alarming reports from the Russian Federation suggesting that someone did not tolerate this vaccine well or that there were post-vaccination complications. We hope we will get the vaccine after the clinical trials, as the leaders of the two countries agreed on,” the department head noted.
