VITEBSK, 7 June (BelTA) – The 35th edition of the international folk music festival Dulcimer and Accordion are Playing will welcome guests from Russia, Serbia, and Azerbaijan on 12-14 June in Postavy, Belarus’ Capital of Culture, BelTA learned from the Postavy District Executive Committee.
The program of the 35th festival is closely tied to the nationwide Year of the Belarusian Woman. The first day will feature a literary and musical evening, the opening of an exhibition showcasing works from the international plein air of the Association of Plein Air Artists, a celebration of traditional folk arts with presentations of intangible cultural heritage elements, a regional pop music competition, and a film screening at an open-air summer cinema. International folk ensembles will also perform at various venues throughout Postavy District.
The main festivities are scheduled for 13 June. At 11:00 a.m., a children’s entertainment program featuring video bloggers will begin, followed by the opening of an art space at 12:00 p.m. dedicated to the 87th anniversary of the local ensemble “Gruzdauskiya Dziady.” From 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., visitors can enjoy a motorcycle show and a rock music concert. The district center will also host the traditional competition of ensembles and solo performers as well as a showcase of rural farmsteads. Throughout the day, a variety of exhibitions and an artisan fair will be open to the public.
The grand opening ceremony of the folk music festival will take place in the evening on Lenin Square. Audiences will be treated to a musical and theatrical performance, a fire show, a pop music concert, and a festive fireworks display. At midnight, the most energetic guests can head to a dance party featuring top DJs.
The final day’s program includes concerts of Belarusian and classical music, a performance by a military brass band, an artisan fair, a presentation of traditional Belarusian dishes, a costumed procession of festival guests and participants, and a gala concert.
