Grodno to host Slavic martial arts festival

GRODNO, 6 May (BelTA) – The competitions in the army hand-to-hand combat and knife fighting will gather participants from Russia and Belarus in Grodno, Vladimir Adamov, Chairman of the Council of the Slavic martial arts club Aridan, told BelTA.

In the run-up to the Victory Day celebrations, Grodno will host an international festival of Slavic martial arts. The nationwide tournament in hand-to-hand and knife combat is scheduled for 7 May. An exhibition performance show will take place on 8 May.

“The festival will be held for the 17th time. It is popular not only in Belarus. Participants from other countries come to take part in this sport forum. This time the tournament will feature a team from Smolensk and representatives of Belarusian regions, a total of nearly 500 competitors,” Vladimir Adamov said.

The second day of the festival promises to be the most spectacular. The Mound of Glory will host a display a wall-to-wall fist fighting, a medieval reenactment Shield and Sword, archery competitions and an exhibition show from an equestrian club. The program will also include an exhibition of collectors’ items and the traditional soldier porridge.

“All the participants and guests of the festival will be invited to see a mobile exposition from the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War. The exhibits will be brought to Grodno for the first time and will be on show for only one day,” said Vladimir Adamov.

The residents and guests of Grodno will learn about the opening stage of the liberation of Belarus, Operation Bagration and the legendary partisan movement.

The 17th international festival of Slavic martial arts will celebrate 72 years since the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
