Grodno-Druskininkai marathon to be presented at world’s leading races

GRODNO, 1 August (BelTA) – The presentation of the Grodno-Druskininkai marathon will be held at the world’s leading races, Grodno Oblast Vice Governor Viktor Liskovich said during the awards ceremony for the 2016 marathon organizers, BelTA has learned.

“Despite the fact that the previous marathon took place less than a month ago, the provisions and regulations have already been approved for the Grodno-Druskininkai marathon of friendship in 2017. The popularity of Europe’s only cross-border marathon is on the rise. We are doing our best to make it more accessible for even a bigger number of participants,” noted Viktor Liskovich.

In his words, a large-scale promotional campaign of this sport event will be held throughout the year. The presentation of the marathon will be held during the world’s leading races, including in Moscow and Warsaw.

The official website of the marathon will be altered as well. At present the website is available in five languages. Work is underway to add information in Italian and French with a view to expanding the geography of participants.

“Next year the marathon will kick off in Grodno. An entertaining program will be offered to participants and fans to popularize a healthy lifestyle: children’s races and races on various distances,” noted Viktor Liskovich. He stressed that next year it is expected that nearly 200 athletes will take part in the marathon. Teams from Grodno's twinned cities will take part in the event for the first time.

According to the Grodno Oblast Vice Governor, the 2016 marathon was held at a high level. The fact that the marathon is held in two countries adds special responsibility. Athletes covered the distance without any stops at the border as the passport control and customs formalities were done at the starting and finishing points.
