GRODNO, 14 September (BelTA) – The international bike ride Grodno-Druskininkai will bring together more than 150 participants from Belarus and Lithuania on 16 September, BelTA learned from Boris Kozelkov, Chairman of the Grodno Oblast trade union organization of local industries and utility services workers.

The trade unions of Grodno Oblast together with the colleagues from Lithuania will organize the bike ride between the sister cities Grodno and Druskininkai. The bike ride is timed to celebrate the Grodno City Day and its 889th birthday.

The main participants of the bike ride will be electricians, mechanics, operators, technologists, engineers and other workers of the housing and utility services, chemical industry and so on. The trade unions of the Belarusian capital, Minsk Oblast, Brest Oblast, Smorgon, Volkovysk and other Belarusian regions took an interest in the event.

Thanks to the visa-free travel program a number of participants from Lithuania have doubled. Prior to the bike event, the Lithuania guests will be welcomed on a sightseeing tour around Grodno.

The bike riders will cover the distance of 42km. The participants will be accompanied by the ambulances and the breakdown service buses and provided with water throughout the marathon.

The winners will be decided with the use of the electronic timing system. The best sportsmen will be named in five age groups among men and women.

At the finish line in Druskininkai the participants will be welcomed with a concert featuring Belarusian artists. All the bike riders will be awarded medals and the winners will get diplomas and prizes.

"Our goal is to foster friendly relations between Belarus and Lithuania and to boost business and partner cooperation which is much easier now due to the visa-free regime," Boris Kozelkov said.
