Gomel to host international cosplay festival on 31 March

GOMEL, 30 March (BelTA) – A multifandom cosplay festival FreeTime Fest will take place in the Gomel city community center on 31 March, the event’s organizers told BelTA.

It will be the fourth festival on record. It will bring together fans of cosplaying and modern youth culture: anime, TV series, comic books, fiction books, dancing, music, and video games. About 300 people from all parts of Belarus as well as from Russia and Ukraine are expected to participate in the event.

The festival will feature competitive and non-competitive stage acts. Participants will be free to choose the theme of their act depending on their own fantasies and some specific fandom such as a cartoon, a TV series, a music band, a video clip, a musical, a fashion show, and so on. Contestants will try to recreate the original image while adding their own personal traits. The panel of judges will evaluate their performance using multiple criteria depending on the nomination, including costume details, acting skills, and other aspects, said Alena Moreva, a representative of the organizing committee.

Exhibitions of drawings, paintings, and photos will be arranged. The community center will have zones dedicated to board games, active dancing amusements, photo locations, and souvenir stalls.

The festival is supposed to bring together fans of modern global culture and fans of cosplaying in addition to letting them realize their creative potential. The festival will also popularize amateur art and will let participants share the best practices.
