Gomel State University to step up scientific exchange programs with China

GOMEL, 4 October (BelTA) – The Gomel State University will step up exchange programs for scientific personnel with Chinese universities in the next few years, BelTA learned from Lyudmila Protchenko, a specialist of the International Relations Department of the university.

China is a promising partner in the area of scientific cooperation. The Gomel State University has maintained friendly relations with China for 25 years. The university and Chinese scientific institutions have signed over 20 cooperation agreements. Their implementation will focus on expanding exchange programs for scientific personnel. The efforts will be equally beneficial for both sides.

A number of mathematicians from the Jiangsu University arrived in Gomel in September for the sake of sharing their experience. In turn, young scientists from the university’s Belarusian-Chinese vacuum and plasma technology research lab will travel to China on 18 October for internship in the Nanjing University. The lab was established as part of the Gomel State University in 2012.

Apart from that, the Gomel State University and the Jiangsu University intend to resume the agreement on the joint training of specialists in Russian philology and mathematics. The previous agreement between the two universities was in effect in 2006-2012. As many as 36 Chinese students received bachelor's degree in the period. The new agreement was signed when a delegation of Gomel Oblast business circles visited Jiangsu Province in April 2016. Resuming joint training will take time, nevertheless, the Gomel university expects to accomplish it soon, said Lyudmila Protchenko.

The Gomel State University has trained 335 Chinese students since 1992. Of them 201 people successfully passed introductory courses and moved onto specialized training in this university and other ones. As many as 140 Chinese students received bachelor’s degree, 168 people received master’s degree, and 26 people received specialist diplomas. Ten professors from Chinese universities enjoyed scientific exchange programs in the period. Nine citizens of China finished postgraduate training and received PhD degrees.
