MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – A golden tractor Belarus 82 made by the Belarusian company MTZ has been put on display during the Technoprom 2018 expo in the Russian city of Novosibirsk. President of Russia Vladimir Putin visited the expo the day before, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian TV channel ONT reports that the stand of the official MTZ dealership has been fitted with professional equipment to present the legendary tractor in the best light. “The vehicle is not made of gold although it seems so at first glance. The improved tractor has been covered with precious film,” the TV channel said.

It turned out later that the golden tractor was not a simple PR stunt: a Siberian customer had ordered the golden tractor made.

“Why is it golden? First, because it was a special order on the part of the dealership. Second, with the golden outlook we wanted to stress that it is the most popular MTZ tractor model in the world. It is a flagship of the Belarusian mechanical engineering industry,” stressed Dmitry Belaits, Director General of the trading house MTZ Siberia.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin did not just walk past the golden tractor. The Russian head of state appreciated the idea and left an autograph addressed to the MTZ dealership.

Alexander Karelin, three-time Olympic champion, a resident of Novosibirsk, member of the State Duma of the Russian parliament, was also drawn to the golden tractor.

The technological development expo Technoprom is held in Novosibirsk every year. It is one of Russia’s largest technological events. By custom, participants of the expo make decisions that influence the country’s economy. Top-level civil servants and captains of industry make speeches. The latest innovative products are demonstrated. Billions are raised as investments in high-tech and innovative startups.
