Germany invites Belarus to attend international data protection forum

MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) - Germany invites representatives of Belarus to attend the international forum on the protection of personal data, Natalya Guivik, the chairperson of the Standing Commission on Legislation of the House of Representatives told BelTA.

The Forum will be held in Germany in September, as part of one of the guest programs of the federal government. The forum will discuss the protection of personal data taking into account the innovations imposed by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Regulation aimed at strengthening and harmonizing the protection of personal data of all persons in the European Union. The participation of the Belarusian delegation was discussed during a meeting between the MPs and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Peter Dettmar.

Belarus’ delegation will include eight people: the justice minister, the chairman of the Supreme Court, the minister of internal affairs, the chairpersons of the Investigative Committee and the National Statistics Committee, the director of the National Center of Legislation and Legal Studies, MPs. “The forum will be useful for Belarus given that we are now working on a draft law on the protection of personal data and in light of the fact that a regular population census may be carried out in our country in 2019,” Natalya Guivik said.
