German’s Laura Dahlmeier wins Women’s 10K Pursuit in PyeongChang

PYEONGCHANG, 12 February (BelTA) - Laura Dahlmeier of Germany clinched her second Olympic gold, winning the Women’s 10K Pursuit on 12 February. The Belarusian athletes missed out on the podium, BelTA has learned.

Despite bad weather conditions, the German athlete missed the target only once to clock the best 30:35.3. Silver went to Slovakia’s Anastasiya Kuzmina, 29.4 seconds back with four penalties. Bronze was collected by France’s Anais Bescond, 29.6 back, with one penalty.

Nadezhda Skardino showed the best time among the Belarusian competitors, finishing 14th after starting 36th, 2:07.4 behind the winner. Irina Krivko came in 17th, 2:18.7 back, with two penalties. Three-time Olympic champion Darya Domracheva left the start line 9th and was among the medal hopefuls until the final standing where she missed four times to finish 37th, 3:51.5, six penalties. Nadezhda Pisareva was 44th, 4:35.0, with three penalties.

The Men’s 12.5K Pursuit will take place later. Belarus will field Vladimir Chepelin, Anton Smolsky and Sergei Bocharnikov.
