German author Heike Sabel presents her third book about Belarus

MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – German author and head of the Together Into the Future charity foundation Heike Sabel has presented her third book about Belarus “Wsjo budjet horocho – Everything will be all right. Why Belarusians say that and believe in that”. The presentation took place in the House of Friendship on 5 February, BelTA has learned.

The German writer is in Belarus to take part in the 26th Minsk International Book Fair. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Peter Dettmar noted that Heike Sabel and he have a history of friendship and he highly values her literary and charity work.

For many years Heike Sabel has been coming to Belarus on a charity mission helping people affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Thanks to her initiatives, the German side supports kindergartens, foster families and hospitals. German volunteers have been to Belarus many times to help renovate kindergartens located in the contaminated areas.

Heike Sabel put her impressions of Belarus into words and published three books about it in Germany. This time she brought her latest book about Belarus to present it at the book fair. The book is a collection of short stories, reflective but humorous, that convey the author’s view of Belarus.

During the presentation the writer read out some chapters from the book in the German language. The interpretation into Belarusian was provided by employee of the Directorate for Europe at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aleksei Zhbanov.

Attending the event were the spouse of the German Ambassador, representatives of the German Embassy in Belarus, activists of the Belarus-Germany Friendship Group, students majoring in German from Belarusian State University, Minsk State Linguistic University, Belarusian National Technical University and school students.
