Four medals for Belarus at European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics

MINSK, 14 July (BelTA) – Milana Kananovich, a graduate of the Lyceum of Belarusian State University (BSU) won a silver medal at the European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) that was held online, hosted from Switzerland’s Zurich, BelTA learned from the BSU press service.

All in all, the Belarusian team took four medals. Darya Hnedzko, a student of Vitebsk Gymnasium No.8, won a gold medal. Another silver medal was awarded to Anastasiya Kazlova, a student of the same gymnasium. Yelizaveta Ilyina from Vitebsk Gymnasium No.1 clinched a bronze medal. The coaches of the Belarusian team were informatics teacher at the BSU Lyceum Anzhelika Lapo and teacher at the BSU Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science Aleksandr Buslavsky.

The European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics was held for the first time. The format of the competition was similar to the International Olympiad in Informatics. The team of every country included four school students and two coaches. During the two-day contest, the participants were required to solve four problems in five hours. All in all, the olympiad brought together 156 school students from 39 countries, including Russia, China, the United States, India, Japan, Brazil, and Canada.

The goals of the event are to encourage young women to study informatics and to increase the number of girls taking part in international competitions in informatics. In the following years, the competition will be hosted by a different participating country every year.
