MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) - FC BATE Borisov has become the winner of the Belarusian Football Cup for the sixth time, BelTA has learned.
In the final match of the 35th cup edition, the team from Borisov defeated FC Dinamo Minsk in a post-match penalty shootout 8-7 (regular time 1-1).
The decisive match at the National Football Stadium in Minsk saw FC Dinamo Minsk have the upper hand. The logical result of their attacking efforts was a goal by Artem Sokolovsky near the half-hour mark. After the break, the Minsk side also held the initiative, but the Borisov team defended skillfully, and in the 63rd minute of the match, substitute Kirill Apanasevich restored parity 1-1. In overtime, the score remained unchanged, and in the penalty shootout, luck was on the side of FC BATE Borisov 8-7.






In previous years, BATE won the national Cup five times (2006, 2010, 2015, 2020, 2021). FC Dinamo Minsk have three trophies to their name, the last of which was 23 years ago, while the other two Cups were won in 1992 and 1994.
In the semifinals, FC Dinamo Minsk twice defeated the current champion of Belarus, ML Vitebsk 2-0 (away) and 1-0 (home). The Borisov side proved stronger than FC Slavia Mozyr 1-0 (away) and 2-0 (home). It is noteworthy that throughout the history of the cup tournaments, these teams met in the final match for the first time.
